What this site collects, and what it doesn't.
A short, plain statement of how your information is handled when you use talktokaren.com. Karen Goehring is a licensed health care provider, so your health information is protected by HIPAA, the federal health privacy law, and by California law.
Getting in touch
This site has no contact form. You reach Karen by phone or email, and what you tell her is used only to get back to you and set up a time.
A first call or email is for getting in touch, not for care. Please leave personal health details out of it; we'll talk about the rest privately.
What this site doesn't do
- No advertising trackers and no cookies. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, keeps a simple count of visits without cookies and without identifying anyone.
- The fonts and pictures are served from this site, so viewing it sends nothing to Google or any advertiser.
- The Directions buttons open Google Maps, which has its own privacy policy once you're there.
Email, text and phone
Email and text messages travel over ordinary networks and aren't encrypted from end to end. Karen uses them for scheduling and logistics. For anything about your care, call, bring it to your session, or ask her about a more secure way to write.
Once you're a client
Everything you share in session and everything in your record is protected health information under HIPAA and California law. Karen uses it to provide your care, to bill for it where you've asked her to, and as the law requires, and for nothing else. She doesn't sell it and doesn't use it for marketing.
Her Notice of Privacy Practices explains in full how your information may be used and shared, and your rights. You'll receive it at your first session, and you can ask for a copy at any time.
Your rights under HIPAA
- See your record and get a copy of it.
- Ask for a correction to your record.
- Ask Karen to limit how your information is used or shared, and to contact you only in certain ways or at certain places.
- Get a list of certain disclosures she has made.
- Get a paper or electronic copy of her Notice of Privacy Practices.
- Make a complaint to Karen, or to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights, with no effect on your care.
